Councilors are non-partisan, elected at-large, and serve for three-year terms and can serve no more than three consecutive terms.
Normally, The Town Council meets the first Monday night of each month at 6:30 p.m. in the Town Office. They do not meet in the month of July. (Dates and times are subject to change.)
If you are interested in running for any of the elected positions in town (Town Council, School Board or Sanitary District Trustee), you must pick up nomination papers to signify your intent to do so. Nomination papers are made available in March and are due back in April. Nominees must collect a minimum of 25 signatures from registered voters in Mechanic Falls. Once completed and returned to the town office, by the deadline, you become a candidate. Your name and the position in which you are running for will be printed on the ballot for the upcoming municipal election.
